Technical Notes

I was to travel to Ecuador to give that speech. The Ministry of Interior was willing to pay for my flight, but things became complicated--maybe they did their homework? So we had to improvise a last minute videoconference. I chose Tox to do the presentation, but we did not have the time to try it properly in real conditions.

We're investigating the causes that prevented the presentation to go to the end, for periodical distortion of audio and video.

The project leader of Tox, irugentoo, already fixed the bugs we ran into during the presentation. That's the magic of free software, and the community aspect that lacks in proprietary software: here, we're between humans. Thank you iru for your great work.

The (original Spanish) text has been bettered—I'm not a native Spanish speaker, and now shows some grammatical differences with the original discourse. For comparison, you may listen to the original recording. Correction of some slides is under way.

Trivia

This talk was prepared with Emacs, Inkscape, and Sozi, and delivered to the Ecuatorian Senate using Tox over Tor*, on December 12, 2014.

Why not over Tor?

The plan was to stream over Tor, but during the short test period we had at our disposal, we elected what appeared to be the most effective method to ensure clear sound and video. It happens that we hit a couple of bugs—now fixed—making the stream too slow for the quality the situation required.
