GNUnited Nations
Introduction to GNUnited Nations
GNUnited Nations (GNUN) is a build system for www.gnu.org
translations. It generates a PO template (.pot
) for an
original HTML article, and merges the changes into all translations,
which are maintained as PO (.po
) files. Finally, it
regenerates the translations in HTML format.
The goal of GNUN is to make maintenance of gnu.org translations easier and to avoid the effect of seriously outdated translations when a particular team becomes inactive.
GNUN is pretty much tied to the layout and structure of GNU Project's website and is not intended for use with other sites.
The GNUN package also contains GNU Web Translators Manual.
See also the trans-coord organizational project.
Downloading GNUN
GNUN can be found on http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnun/ [via http] and ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnun/ [via FTP]. It can also be found on one of our FTP mirrors; please use a mirror if possible.
You can also checkout development GNUN sources from CVS:
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/sources/trans-coord co trans-coord/gnun
Documentation
GNUN documentation can be found at
http://www.gnu.org/software/trans-coord/manual/. You may also
find more information about GNUN by running
info gnun
and info web-trans
on your
system.
Mailing Lists
GNUN has one mailing list: <trans-coord-devel@gnu.org>, which is used to discuss all aspects of GNUN. <bug-gnun@gnu.org> is an alias.
Announcements about GNUN releases are being made on <trans-coord-news@gnu.org>. You can use Mailman's “topics” by subscribing to the gnun topic — that way you will not receive other messages which might not be of interest.
To subscribe to these or any GNU mailing lists, please send an empty mail with a Subject: header line of just “subscribe” to the relevant -request list. For example, to subscribe yourself to GNU announcement list, you would send mail to <info-gnu-request@gnu.org> with no body and a Subject: header line of just “subscribe”. Or you can use the mailing list web interface.
Request an Enhancement
If you would like any new feature to be included in future versions of GNUN, please send a request to <bug-gnun@gnu.org>.
Please remember that development of GNUN is a volunteer effort, and you can also contribute to its development. For information about contributing to the GNU Project, please read How to help GNU.
Report a Bug
If you think you have found a bug in GNUN, then please send as complete a report as possible to <bug-gnun@gnu.org>.
Maintainer
GNUN is currently being maintained by Yavor Doganov <yavor@gnu.org> and Pavel Kharitonov <ineiev@gnu.org>.
